After 28 years, finally Success !
In the Summer of 1985 ( age 18 ), I started my first company called Newby Promotions,I just graduated high school and I invested several pay checks in to renting a Hall with another local famed promoter ! I worked nights and at this time I was living in my car because my Mother is the old school type, when you get 18 you move out period, she had been telling my brothers and I for years ?Anyway I needed some more money to moved in to a apartment, so my investment in to renting this hall called The Newark Pavilion had to pay off, also we paid for a D.j named Dre from a group called The World Class Wrecking Cru. Needless to say thousands of people showed up and the party was a success and I made thousands of dollars over the next three years promoting parties, but my partner got busted and the business failed ! Years later we did not know it then but that D.j we hired turned out to become the famous Dr.Dre.! My second company I started was called Newby Management, I was 21 years old then and my friends had a rap group called Two Def and The Big Time Posse,I liked what I heard so I became there Manager. I got them signed to a record label called Stone Records out of San Jose and they pressed a 12 inch single called " Getting Busy "in which I promoted to the local radio stations and clubs. We were just getting ready to go on tour with our label mate the famous Debbie Deb ( When I Hear Music and Weekends ) when Stone Records got raided and shut down for being a front ? My third company I started was called Newby Publishing at the age of 23 in 1990, I published the Bay Area's first rap magazine called "Around The Bay" and sold the name after the first copy was published ! I started my fourth company called Bates and Shabazz Publishing and we published Oakland, Ca first African American Superhero The Black Savior from 1991 to 1995.We had 5 years of constant support from MTv's Sway and local media, with a Epic battle with Ice-T ! Oh yea I forgot, I started Godbrothers Productions from 1985 to 1998 with over 300 music productions we produced and recorded out of our studio !I started my sixth company in 1995-1998 called Oakland Comics Entertainment which published and distributed over 15 comic book titles, when a investor group wanted to take over my company, I said no and shut it down and moved out of the state. In 1999 I started my seventh company called OCE Financial, when I got it off the ground, my investors pulled out. In my eighth company I started called Godbrothers Inc 2003 - present consist of 5 businesses that finally have monetary secured my future 28 years later. MY POINT IS KEEP THE FAITH !
